Construction site for Hat Yai 2 Hospital officially confirmed. “Siam Koranit Group” donates 130 rai of land in Ban Pru. “Decha Ism” sets up budget for immediate land development to elevate the area into a health city and coordinates with all parties to expedite the project.
Good news for the residents of Songkhla Province! After long advocacy, the construction of Hat Yai 2 Hospital has finally been pushed forward. The original Hat Yai Hospital needs to accommodate an increasing number of patients each year, and the space is already too cramped for expansion. Recently, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Mr. Decha Ism Kaewthong, who has personally surveyed several donation sites, has selected land in Ban Pru sub-district (Ban Rai Municipality) in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, donated by the Siam Koranit Group, totaling 130 rai. Today (February 6, 2025), a meeting was held at Hat Yai Hospital to discuss the implementation of the “Hat Yai 2 Hospital Construction Project”, chaired by Mr. Decha Ism Kaewthong, alongside Ms. Suphaphorn Kamnerdporn, a member of the House of Representatives from Songkhla Province, Democrat Party, Dr. Chai Sithi Thepchadree, Director of Hat Yai Hospital, Dr. Sombat Padungwitthiwat, Public Health Inspector of Health Area 12, and representatives from various agencies including the Department of Lands, Department of Treasury, Provincial Electricity Authority, Provincial Waterworks Authority, Department of Groundwater Resources, Department of Highways, Department of Rural Roads, Ban Rai Municipality, and Mr. Jamnong Eawwongcharoen, executive of Siam Koranit Group, who donated the 130 rai of land for the construction of Hat Yai 2 Hospital.
Mr. Decha Ism Kaewthong, Deputy Minister of Public Health, stated that he has always been aware of the congestion problems at Hat Yai Hospital. Upon taking office, he immediately pushed forward this project with all sectors. Previously, there were offers to donate land in Tha Chang sub-district, Bang Klam District, but there were heritage land issues, as one heir did not sign to transfer the land, leading to the search for several new plots of land, both donated and from state property. This particular land plot was offered for donation long ago by Mr. Jamnong, initially for 100 rai, but he requested an additional amount because he envisions the area as a health city with a nursing college nearby, thus leading to today's 130 rai donation from Siam Koranit. The decision to choose this land plot was made collectively for several reasons. The area is located on high ground, guaranteeing it will not flood and requires minimal budget for filling the land. It is surrounded by nature, not far from the main road, Kanjanavanich Road (Highway 4), and near the eastern ring road of Hat Yai (Highway 425), making access convenient from all routes. Today, many agencies are invited to this meeting to work together to expedite the project’s commencement. The Ministry of Public Health has allocated a budget of 92 million baht for land development, and once everything is finalized, a handover ceremony and an official press conference will be held again.
